Proposal: Changing a presentation course on the go

This is a work/idea in progress. Last update: 5th March 11:26 GMT

Summary

This is an idea of a new extension, add-in or built-in feature to be added to software applications like OpenOffice.org Impress, Microsoft Powerpoint or Apple Keynote.

The purpose is to allow the presenter to change the course of the presentation during the presentation itself, in such a way that it does not interrupt the presentation and it is done without the audience knowledge. This of course, requires the use of “presenter tools”/”presenter view mode”.

Use Cases

  • Andrew is giving a lecture but doesnt know exactly the age and open-mindness of the audience. Upon starting the lecture, he realizes the people are not prepared (in whatever way) for some of his slides, so he changes the course of his presentation to show something more simple which they can understand.
  • Mary is finishing a presentation, and is not sure if she should show the last 2 slides which have some more sensitive (in whatever way) information. She prepares it in such a way that during the presentation she can “jump” this 2 slides to the last one, ir view them all.

Design

Here are some basic diagrams which represent in a simple way, how would some slides be presented to the user.
